It gives users access to free and accurate geospatial data and map layers related to significant continental environmental issues. The atlas has nearly 40 map layers ranging from major roads and population density to pollutant releases and marine and terrestrial ecoregions. It is now fully interactive and offers a host of new features.

BEGINNER'S CORNER
What is Python?
Python is an interpreted, high-level, object-oriented programming language. It has high-level built-in data structures, combined with dynamic programming capabilities. This makes Python very attractive for Rapid Application Development, as well as for use as a scripting or "glue" language to connect existing components. Python is simple, easy to learn and encourages program modularity and code reuse. The ArcGIS geoprocessing framework includes a scripting environment, and Python is the scripting language included with ArcGIS. Python can be used to access and automate ESRI geoprocessing functionality. Users can also incorporate Python scripts as custom tools in ArcToolbox. It can also be used for linking Web applications on ArcGIS Server.
