A Call for Papers has been issued for a Special Issue of the journal Computers &
Geosciences, with the title "towards a geoprocessing web"...
As Web services technology has matured in recent years, a new scalable
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is emerging as the basis for distributed
computing and large networks of collaborating applications. Meanwhile, an
increasing amount of geospatial content and capabilities are available online as
Web services. These Web Services allow users to collect, analyze and derive
geospatial data, information, and knowledge on the Web in an interoperable way.
In this respect, the analysis and transformation of geospatial data into
geospatial information performed by Web-based geoprocessing is important.
Moreover, Web-based geoprocessing of distributed geospatial information is
changing the way in which geoscience applications and systems are designed,
developed and used. Therefore, the Geoprocessing Web is emerging currently as
one of the most desirable and vital research areas of geospatial information.
The research on Geoprocessing Web is not limited to Web service technology, but
also requires new domain-specific concepts and methodologies, and new approaches
regarding development and management.
This special issue is to collect the current representative research in the area
of Geoprocessing Web. To this aim, the Editors seek a number of high-quality
research and application papers that discuss the state-of-the-art research on
theoretic framework and practical implementations, and identify challenges and
open issues in Geoprocessing Web. Topics of interests include, but are not
Service-Oriented Architecture for the Geoprocessing Web
Geoprocessing in the Grid and in the Cloud computing
Geoprocessing and Linked data
Standards and Metadata for Geoprocessing
Discovery in the Geoprocessing Web
Quality of Service and Service Level Agreement in the Geoprocessing Web
